Autumn

November 21st, 2008

Here it is, November, 2008. I am not quite sure where summer went, as it seemed to have flown by rather quickly.

Now, in a few short weeks, Christmas will be here. One of my favorite gifts to give is a pet portrait. People just adore their pets and what a lovely gift this makes. Check out my website for prices. The portraits are done in pastel and can be framed if you like.

As for summer…I had a few shows this summer and it was quite a delightful experience. I actually sold a painting and that, for me, was a milestone.

Lately, however, time at the canvas has been very minimal. My mom was ill during the summer months which made my time limited to painting. Even though I did not pick up a brush, I did work at some things. I either read about different techniques or I would take a class here and there.

I took one class, a watercolor class, taught by Ron Thurston. I was not too happy with the class as I am more interested in learning the artist’s techniques. Although part of the class was spent on that, most of it was spent on what the student painted. I like to paint in my own surroundings, so this was a very new experience for me. I don’t work well in those types of situations.

Recently, I have been watching Art Academy Live snippets, and it has been enjoyable. The techniques presented in these snippet are very helpful to any artist whether beginner or experienced.

Additionally, since my last post, my daughter, Nicole, has been taking on a little creativity of her very own. She has written a book, “My Crazy Life”, and it is being published. The book is due out on December 27, but it can be preordered on Amazon or through the Publish America web site.

The book is very humorous and I enjoyed reading it. I was quite surprised at some of the happenings that Nicole has experienced. Some things are just not easy to tell your mom.

Hopefully, things will begin to settle down for me, and I can resume my artistic endeavors. I have been working on one of the rooms in my house which I plan to convert into my studio. This will give me the quite I need to concentrate more on those paintings that are in my head but are not yet on canvas.

For now, have a very Happy Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas. Christmas is always a special time for me as I can reflect on the birth of our Savior and the true meaning of the holiday
